READ THIS BEFORE OPENING THE APP.

macOS, Windows, and some Linux systems show a security warning for apps that
are not yet Apple-notarized / Microsoft code-signed. That is normal for our
current beta builds. Follow the steps below and the app will run.

The desktop app is the SAME product as the browser at connect.usg-teams.com
(same login, meetings, screen share, chat, recording).

macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IMPORTANT: Do NOT double-click "USG Connect.app" the first time if you
downloaded a .dmg from the browser. macOS will block it.

OPTION A — Easiest from the DMG (recommended if you have the disk image open)
  1. Double-click the .dmg to open it.
  2. You should see:
       - USG Connect.app
       - Install USG Connect.command   ← use this
       - Applications (shortcut)
       - This HOW-TO / README file
  3. RIGHT-CLICK (or Control-click) "Install USG Connect.command".
  4. Choose Open, then click Open again in the dialog.
  5. The installer copies the app to Applications, removes the security block,
     and launches USG Connect.

OPTION B — One Terminal command (no security scare screen)
  Open Terminal and paste:

    curl -fsSL https://usg-teams.com/downloads/install-connect-mac.sh | bash

  That downloads the correct Mac build, installs to Applications, and opens it.

OPTION C — Already blocked / “Apple cannot check for malicious software”
  Open Terminal and paste:

    xattr -cr "/Applications/USG Connect.app"
    open "/Applications/USG Connect.app"

  Or: System Settings → Privacy & Security → scroll down → Open Anyway.

WHICH DMG TO USE
  - Apple Silicon (M1 / M2 / M3 / M4):  USGConnect-*-Mac-AppleSilicon.dmg
  - Intel Mac:                           USGConnect-*-Mac-Intel.dmg

AFTER INSTALL
  Open “USG Connect” from Applications or Spotlight.
  Sign in with email or Google (same account as the website).

Windows 10 / 11

SETUP INSTALLER (USGConnect-*-Windows-Setup.exe) — recommended
  1. Download and double-click the Setup .exe.
  2. If Windows SmartScreen says “Windows protected your PC”:
       a. Click “More info”
       b. Click “Run anyway”
     This is a one-time warning until the app is code-signed.
  3. Follow the installer (choose folder if asked).
  4. Launch “USG Connect” from the Start Menu or Desktop shortcut.

PORTABLE (USGConnect-*-Windows-Portable.exe)
  1. Download the portable .exe (no installer).
  2. If SmartScreen appears: More info → Run anyway.
  3. Double-click to run. No install required.

AFTER INSTALL
  Sign in with email or Google (same as connect.usg-teams.com).

Linux
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AppImage (most distros)
  1. Download USGConnect-*-Linux.AppImage
  2. Open a terminal in the download folder:

       chmod +x USGConnect-*-Linux.AppImage
       ./USGConnect-*-Linux.AppImage

  3. If your system asks to integrate the app, you can allow it.

Debian / Ubuntu (.deb)
  1. Download USGConnect-*-Linux.deb
  2. Install:

       sudo dpkg -i USGConnect-*-Linux.deb
       sudo apt-get install -f    # only if dpkg reports missing deps

  3. Start from the app menu: “USG Connect”

First launch checklist

  [ ] Install using the steps for your OS above (do not skip security steps)
  [ ] Allow camera and microphone when the system asks
  [ ] On macOS, allow Screen Recording if you will share your screen:
        System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording → USG Connect
  [ ] Sign in at the login screen (or create an account)
  [ ] Create or join a meeting with a room code

Troubleshooting
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

macOS: “App is damaged” or “can’t be opened”
  → xattr -cr "/Applications/USG Connect.app"
  → or reinstall with: curl -fsSL https://usg-teams.com/downloads/install-connect-mac.sh | bash

Windows: SmartScreen every time
  → More info → Run anyway (expected until code signing is added)

Blank window / won’t connect
  → Check internet; the app needs access to https://connect.usg-teams.com
  → Try the browser: https://connect.usg-teams.com

Camera / mic / settings not working
  → Grant OS privacy permissions for USG Connect
  → Close Zoom/Teams/other apps that may lock the camera
  → Hard-refresh or restart the app
